choosing your yoga education

Welcome to The Institute of Interdisciplinary Yoga Studies, a Yoga Alliance registered school (RYS) at all three levels (200, 300 and 500) and our registered (RPYS) prenatal yoga teacher training, offering a liberal arts curriculum since 2000. We believe that the process of becoming a teacher in the yogic sciences begins with a commitment to personal growth. Our objective in your life, if you choose to study with us, is to expand your capacity to be open, to reveal yourself to yourself. This means being totally committed to the truth, in speech and action, supporting a life of integrity. Our goal within all of our programs is to get to the truth with ourselves, and then, help our students get to their truth. In doing this, we can begin to create change and help our students create a balanced life.

Our programs include a traditional Ashtanga Yoga teacher training that brings some of the most revered Ashtanga teachers in the world to Kansas City for weekend modules, as well as study with long-time teachers at Maya Yoga, the premier Ashtanga studio in the Kansas City Metro Area for over twenty years.

Our advanced traditional yoga studies (our bridge program & 300 hour program) are steeped in the structural yoga traditions, the teachings from Swami Rama, and now includes the Ayurveda Yoga Specialist program created by Kathryn Templeton. We consider ourselves the midwest sangha of the Himalayan Institute. The foundational modules of the program are offered in a residential module format so that teachers can take a pause from their everyday lives and immerse themselves in the teachings and include mentorship, so you have a guide along the way. The Ayurveda Yoga Specialist program is offered in a weekend format, a full Friday, Saturday and a full Sunday.

Some of the greatest yoga teachers in the world have been on our faculty to inspire you. We also bring in guest teachers to educate you about the most current innovations in traditional and alternative medicine that can support your teaching style.

We believe that including the study of Ayurveda is important to all yoga teachers, so we include the Ayurveda Yoga Specialist (AYS) program as a part of our 300 hour advanced certificate. This is an open enrollment, meaning that any 200 hour teacher, from any yoga school, is eligible to enroll for the AYS program.

For advanced teachers, our professional yoga therapy program is known as KC Yoga Therapy, and is undergoing the accreditation process at this time with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Any teacher completing the bridge program, or our 300 hour advanced program is eligible for admission.

For beginning teachers, our structural 200 hour is offered through Dharma House School of Yoga  and will prepare you to go into the advanced programs.

What makes the IIYS different? You choose yourself first...learn about yourself; who you are and what you bring to the table not only as a yoga teacher or yoga therapist, but you as human being with a life full of stuff. Your path of study here will include some of the greatest teachers in the world. So make your yoga teacher training and your professional yoga therapist training not only another certificate, but an opportunity for you to really know yourself so you can facilitate healing in others...it's unique..and sets us apart from all other programs.
